I attended the Yonkers, NY Public School System from Elementary through High School, graduating in 1970. In High School I participated in Varsity Football and Basketball playing on Championship teams in both sports. I attended Carnegie-Mellon University (Pgh, PA) and graduated in May 1074 with a BA in Economics. During college I was a four- year letterman in Football as a Defensive Back, and during my Junior I played 5 games as a Quarterback. In my Junior and Senior years I was selected as an All-Conference player at Defensive Back.
After my graduation I enrolled in a Masters in Economics program at the Univ of Chicago, however I removed myself from this program after 1 quarter because I realized that at that point in my life I was not ready to “put in the necessary work” to achieve a Master’s degree. I began my professional working career after that in Chicago in 1975. I worked for 2 years with Johnson & Johnson as a Distribution Supervisor followed by 12 years with Baxter Laboratories in various Materials Management positions (Transportation supervisor, Traffic Mgr, Purchasing Mgr, and Materials Mgr). Although my corporate career was financially rewarding and taught me many professional skills, I always had the desire to “be my own boss” and “determine my own future”, so in 1988 my wife and I began our own Medical/Laboratory/ Scientific Products, Supplies, and Equipment Distribution business in Metro Atlanta (COSH Healthcare, Ltd.). Once our new company had successfully made it through its initial 3 years of existence and had established a solid business foundation I began participating as a volunteer in a mentoring program at a Title I elementary school in Decatur, GA that my Fraternity (Omega Psi Phi, Inc.) had established a formal partnership in education with. This experience was extremely rewarding for me because it gave me a real and substantive way to “give back to my community”. Throughout the 90’s and up until my departure from Georgia in 2015 I continued to share my time, energy, enthusiasm and support to Toney Elementary. I also participated in mentoring programs that my Fraternity developed for Middle School and High School students during this time.
In July 2015, after 27yrs in business, my wife and I decided to close our GA-based business and relocate to Rio Rancho and begin our lives anew in the Great American Southwest. New Mexico had always been an area that we envisioned spending this time of our lives in. Also, living in New Mexico brought us significantly closer to our two adult children that both reside in Northern California with their families. Our business had allowed us to establish the financial security needed to begin to enjoy the fruits of our labors and this phase of our lives as retirees. However, that urge to “give back” still remains and that is why I continue to seek out opportunities and situations where I can achieve this personal objective. I believe that The Community Mentoring Program and my fraternity are the perfect vehicles to achieve this goal in my new home, New Mexico...
