William Roberts retired from the United States Navy in 1996. A senior en- listed person, he served on board 4 nuclear submarines, and two training commands. He has been married to his wife, Laura, for 38 years, and to- gether they have four sons. After retiring from the Navy, he began work- ing as a manufacturing technician at Intel, leaving 8 years later as a senior supervisor. Leaving Intel allowed him to spend more time with his family, and it was during this period that he and Laura began doing foster care through CYFD. Their desire was to foster children 13 and above. Their first long term placement were two brothers, which they adopted two years lat- er. It was during this period of time that he saw the need for children this age to receive additional support in many areas, including leadership, ed- ucation and preparation for successful transition into adulthood. He began working with Albuquerque Public Schools as a Leadership Instructor. His current position is as the Dean of Students for a K-8 school in APS, which al- lows him to mentor and support his students. He has been working with Community Mentor Network, and the PRIDE program at UNM for over three years. He has degrees in Nuclear Science Technology and Emergency Medical Technology from Georgia Military College and a Bachelor of Gen- eral Studies from Valdosta State University
